Leadership

Minister Randy Payne

Randy was born and raised in Iowa and after being in Indiana for 20 years has returned with his wife, Sheri, and 2 children Preston and Jacie to Iowa and is the minister at the Atalissa church of Christ.

Randy went to bible college at the Midwestern School of Evangelism where he received his bachelor’s degree in 1986.

Randy and Sheri love people and have a passion for sharing the Good News of Jesus. Randy’s laid-back style of preaching is Bible based and is aimed at preaching Jesus and His finished work on the cross. Randy believes the local church is the hope of the world and gives direction to a world that seems to get more chaotic by the day. Randy and Sheri invite you to join us as we seek to live our lives in the power of Jesus’ resurrection.

Statement of Faith

The Atalissa Church of Christ is a caring church family of believers in Jesus Christ. We are an independent, non-denominational fellowship finding real purpose in life through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. We seek unity among believers in Christ and follow the pattern of worship given in God’s Holy Word.

We practice the baptism of the New Testament, immersion in water.

We observe the Lord’s Supper every Lord’s Day.

We continue to grow in grace and knowledge as we study God’s Word.

We believe the Lord will come again!

History

In the summer of 1870 an evangelist from the Christian Churches of Iowa, a representative of the Restoration Movement, held revival meetings in Atalissa. A group of thirty-six people of the community saw the need for a church in Atalissa, so meetings began in the Depot until a building was finished in 1872. This building still serves the congregation today.

In 1922 the building was raised, and a basement was excavated. Cement blocks were individually made using sand from the nearby Cedar River. At this time, a Sunday School room was also added at the rear of the building.
